I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to Winter Break! If your child is going to be absent before or after the winter break, please let me know. We will be completing each of our units of study and finalizing grades over the next few weeks in preparation for the 2nd quarter ending and report cards being sent out. There will be no homework this week as we approach the Winter Break. Please remind to students to return their Sign and Return papers they received this past Thursday. Reading- This week, we will review identifying the author’s point of view, text features, and the main idea of nonfiction texts. We will spend some time doing fun Winter activities. Grammar- This week, we will review what we have learned about verb tenses, types of sentences, and reference materials such as the encyclopedia, thesaurus, and the dictionary. Spelling –There will be no spelling this week. Students will receive a new spelling list when they return from Winter Break. Writing- This week, we will continue working on informative writing. Informational writing will include 5 paragraphs: an introduction to the topic, 3 paragraphs explaining the 3 big ideas or subtopics that support their main topic, and a conclusion. Students will also include facts, definitions and transition words in their writing. Science: We will reviewing what we’ve learned this unit about weathering, erosion, rocks, and minerals. Important Dates: December 20- 3rd grade winter classroom parties There will be no school on Friday 12/21/2018 December 21st- January 4th: Winter Break (No School) Have a wonderful week!
