Spelling- Sorts 25, 26, 27. Focus on sort 26 this week. The spelling quiz on this unit will be given March 8.
Reading- We are learning the usage of literal vs. non-literal language with figurative language. Students are learning to use similes, metaphors, hyperbole, idioms, onomatopoeia, and alliteration. Writing- We will continue to work on opinion writing. Students are reading two articles about the same topic written from two different points of view. Students are then forming their own opinion about the topic using evidence from the articles to support their own point of view. Grammar- Students will review subject/verb agreement and learn about pronoun/antecedent agreement. Social Studies – In our current unit on the American Government, students are studying the National, State, and Local Governments, how they are organized, who leads each branch, and the responsibilities of each branch. We have learned what it means to be responsible citizens and why it is so important to respect one another. Upcoming dates and reminders: February 25-March 1 – No lunch visitors this week please! Boosterthon pledge drive continues February 27 – Individual Picture Day February 28 – Club photos, Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day March 1 – Boosterthon Fun Run – 9:00 for third grade
