Hello parents,
I hope you enjoyed your weekend! Spelling- Sort 19, 20, 21. Focus on sort 20 this week. Students will have a spelling quiz on January 25th. Reading- We will continue looking at various passages to identify text structures: description, main idea, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and sequencing. This week we will be focusing on problem and solution and cause and effect text structures. Writing- We will continue working on our informational writing pieces where students introduce a topic, develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details, use linking words and phrases to connect ideas within categories of information and provide a concluding statement or section. We will also be reviewing constructive responses from the beginning of the year (TEACH). Grammar- We will be going over how to use commas with quotation marks. Social Studies- We are starting our unit on Colonial America. Students will be learning about the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. At the end of the unit students will be able to describe the physical geography of the colonies, identify key people and their roles in each colony, and give examples of how trade was used. Last week our focus was on the New England colonies. We will be working on Mid-Atlantic colonies this week. Upcoming dates and reminders:
