Hello Parent! In unit 4, students will be learning about shapes and their attributes, partitioning shapes into equal parts to find unit fractions, relating area to multiplication and addition, using rulers to measure length to the nearest ¼ and ½ inch and using the data to create a line plot, finding the perimeter of polygons, and continuing to work with bar graphs and picture graphs. Last week our focus was on reviewing area and perimeter. Students know that area is found by multiplying length by width. They know that perimeter is the addition of all the side measurements. This week our focus is on angles (right, acute, obtuse, and straight) and polygons.

I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and were able to spend time with family and get some well needed rest! This week we will be starting unit 4. Unit 4 is titled Measurement and Data. In this unit, students will be learning about shapes and their attributes, partitioning shapes into equal parts to find unit fractions, relating area to multiplication and addition, using rulers to measure length to the nearest ¼ and ½ inch and using the data to create a line plot, finding the perimeter of polygons, and continuing to work with bar graphs and picture graphs.
