Hi parents,
This week we will review some place value standards while starting adding and subtracting three digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will also tie this to word problems as well. We will tentatively have our first quiz this Friday, August 31st. This may change depending on how students are grasping the concepts in class.

What does our math class look like?
We start the morning with whole group warm-up activities. The bulk of our time is spent with me teaching small group instruction to each math group while the rest of the class is working in rotations. Students will be working in different rotations each day. Rotations include interactive notebook examples, problem solving in their journals, worksheets, games, and interactive activities. All students were given a new account with Prodigy. Unfortunately, we will not have Ten Marks this year as Amazon is doing away with it. All students keep examples of the standards they are working on in their interactive notebooks. They should be bringing these notebooks home for review each week. Students should also be bringing home their agendas and CJ's each day and bringing them back to school each morning. Please check the agenda for homework and initial the agenda when the homework has been completed. Homework will start this week. All homework is due on Friday. We have been working on creating, interpreting, and making comparisons with tally charts, picture graphs, and bar graphs. We will finish up graphs by looking at line plots. Graphs will be studied throughout the year and will appear on most of the unit assessments. This week we will begin working on place value through the thousands. We will work with base ten blocks and how to write numbers in standard (261), extended (220 + 60 + 1) and word forms. (two hundred sixty one). We will also be learning the difference between value (how much a digit is worth) and place value (where a digit sits in a multi-digit number). We will also be comparing numbers. Hi Parents, We are getting started with our first unit. Attached is a unit letter below. We will start this week with reviewing some graphing and data skills with bar graphs, pictographs, and link plot graphs.
