I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and were able to spend time with family and get some well needed rest! This week we will be starting unit 4. Unit 4 is titled Measurement and Data. In this unit, students will be learning about shapes and their attributes, partitioning shapes into equal parts to find unit fractions, relating area to multiplication and addition, using rulers to measure length to the nearest ¼ and ½ inch and using the data to create a line plot, finding the perimeter of polygons, and continuing to work with bar graphs and picture graphs. Attached here please find the link for the family newsletter to Unit 4.

Homework: Due by Friday. This weeks homework packet is a review for the upcoming test. I will not be assigning homework the week of December 17-20.
This week we will be reviewing how to find the area of a figure. We will also be reviewing word problems using a variable for the unknown, patterns, and graphs. Our goal is to start the test on Friday, December 14th, so students can complete the test next Monday. Please let me know as soon as possible if your child will be absent the week of December 17-20. Attached here please find the link for the family newsletter to Unit 3. https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-3-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
If your child is going to be absent during December, please let me know as soon as possible. We will be completing our math units and finalizing grades over the next few weeks in preparation for the end of the second quarter reporting period and preparing report cards. This week we will begin working on finding the area of a figure. We will first work on finding area by counting square units inside the figure. Next, we will learn how to multiply length x width to find the area of a figure. We will continue reviewing word problems with mixed operations. Students are expected to use the CUBES method while solving word problems. Students will have a quiz at the end of this week covering area. It will include finding area by counting the square units inside a figure as well as multiplying the length and width. Hi Parents, We will begin our third math unit of the year. Please see the attached unit letter to get an idea of what the skills look like and what we'll be working on in this unit.
Hi parents, We will be reviewing this week for our test at the end of the week. Students should be bringing home their notebooks to study from. Their homework for this week is a review packet. This will be a great tool to help study for the test. Also please feel free to refer to the Unit 2 letter posted at the beginning of the unit to check again on the skills covered in this unit. Hi Parents,
We will continue to work on division strategies as well as solving for an unknown number/variable in an equation using multiplication and division. --> 8 x ___ = 24 Students would understand to use division to find the unknown number. We will have a quiz on Friday, November 2nd. This will cover division by using equal groups and repeated subtraction as well as finding the unknown number in an equation. Have a nice week! This week we will be learning the properties of multiplication including the Commutative Property, Identity Property, Zero Property, Associative Property, and Distributive Property. These properties help students to identify patterns in multiplication that will help them to solve division problems as well.
This week we will continue working with arrays to solve multiplication problems. We will also use our fact families to introduce division.
During this unit of study, students will learn how to use repeated addition and arrays to solve multiplication problems of single digit numbers, how to find the quotient when solving a division problem, how to use multiplication and division to solve word problems, how to find an unknown whole number in a multiplication or division problem by using the inverse operation, learning the communtative, associative and distributive properties of multiplication, multiplying by multiples of ten, and continuing to study bar graphs and beginning to learn how to measure to the nearest ¼ inch with a ruler. You can find the Unit 2 math letter at the following link: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-2-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf Hi parents, We are starting our next math unit this week! Please check out the unit letter to get a detailed idea about the skills covered in this unit. Also, please continue to work on multiplication facts at home- it will help a GREAT DEAL with this unit! :) Multiplication.com is a great website that students can use at home to take practice multiplication quizzes on. Sign and returns will be coming home on Thursday. Please review these papers with your child and return them signed the following day. Thank you!
Hi Parents,
This week we will be reviewing and take our unit test at the end of the week. Students will be bringing home their notebooks to help them study. To revisit any skills, please glance at the unit letter from the beginning of our unit that was posted with the weekly news |
